Our History

Generators Constructions have been building generators for over 30 years

The Generator Hire group of companies was formed in 1988 by the Managing Director Peter Walden and consisted of Generator Hire Service Pty Ltd (GHS), Generator Sales and Controls Pty Ltd (GSC), and Generator Constructions Pty Ltd (GC)

The company started hiring generators to the television and entertainment industry which required a high level of reliability, service and extremely quiet machines. This led us to construct all our own generators in Brisbane to meet the required demands.

Mid 2018 Generator Hire Service Pty Ltd (GHS) was sold, leaving GC able to focus on the design and construction of power systems and generator controls.

As the computer age developed we became involved in sophisticated electronic controls and then became manufacturers for Data Centres, hospitals, supply authorities and other critical installations.

GC has been involved with projects with many different engines and alternator manufacturers including Cummins, CAT, MTU, Perkins, Iveco, Yanmar, Stamford, Meccalte and Marathon.

We have also worked with many different control systems including ComAp, Woodward and Deep Sea. We began using ComAp in 2005 and have since installed approximately 500 units from simple controllers to complex multiple unit installations. We ran our own fleet of over one hundred (100) generators ranging from 15 to 1400kva most of which were able to be synchronised therefore understanding not only the construction but the operation of generators.

As part of our ongoing research and development we have assisted ComAp with product upgrade features and have been involved in field testing new products as they are released to confirm correct operation and functionality

In 2005 we designed the paralleling system for Energex and Ergon for their mobile generators. We have since built over one hundred (100) units in the past fifteen (15) years for the two major supply authorities. Consequently we have a high level of knowledge and experience with connection to the supply grid.

GC was contracted by Cummins to build the first four QSK95 generators (3500kva) in the world, which were supplied to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital. This involved designing the canopies with regard to airflow, noise, exhaust noise and back pressure and remote radiator pipe sizing. This project also involved extensive testing at 11KV for Queensland Health which we passed with zero defects.

GC performs all aspects of generator construction in house and employs designers, boiler makers, sheet metal workers, painters, mechanics and electricians therefore enabling us to understand all facets of power systems, generator construction, operation and installation.
